Volume 13 • Issue 4 | 2016 | ASIA Miner | 69 Product News WHITEHAVEN Coal has placed an order for 50 Cat longwall roof supports to extend its Narrabri North longwall from 300 metres to 400 metres . The company aims to increase production and reduce costs . Already regarded as one of the most productive longwalls in Australia, the current system set a monthly production record of 1 . 057 million tonnes in April . The mine in northern New South Wales will start mining its first 400 metre-wide panel in the second half of 2017. Narrabri is operating a complete Cat longwall mining system includ- ing an EL3000 Shearer, roof supports, AFCPF6 Face Conveyor and BSLPF6 Beam Stage Loader with crusher and boot end . The order of Cat roof supports includes 43 face roof supports and 7 gate road sup- ports with 2 . 05 metre spacing, 2 . 25 metre to 4 . 70 metre height range, 450mm leg diameter and 13,000kN support capacity . Last year the mine ordered a second EL3000 Shearer based on the productive performance of the first machine. The EL3000 Shearer fea- tures a unique one-piece mainframe engineered to optimize productiv- ity while ensuring reliability and durability . The ranging arms feature cast hinge points designed to handle higher cutting and haulage forces, such as 860-kW cutting forces with haulage capable of 32 metres/ minute while cutting . According to Whitehaven, the mechanical availability of the second Cat shearer since its installation in September 2015 is very good . Ad- vanced, state-based automation is boosting longwall productivity and reducing downtime . Functionalities such as horizon control and face alignment provide a consistent cutting process . Narrabri established a new calendar year production record of 8 . 3 million tonnes of ROM coal in 2015 . Whitehaven's June quarter pro- duction report explains further positive results: "As a direct conse- quence of the higher production levels, production costs have fallen with Narrabri confirming its place as Whitehaven's lowest cost mine." ASSETS solution provider Vivablast is employ- ing Konecranes CXT lifting technology to help achieve optimum safety and efficiency in pro- cessing componentry for the multi-billion dol- lar Nghi Son petroleum refinery being built in Than Hoa Province south of Hanoi in Vietnam . Vivablast, which has more than 15 years' experience in major South East Asian con- struction and maintenance projects in diverse industrial sectors, compared the quality, re- liability and service backing of major crane brands before selecting CXT technology for its blasting and painting facility near the site of the new refinery. "We compared many crane types and found Konecranes suited our needs best . Also, importantly, the equipment is backed up by comprehensive global maintenance ser- vices," says Vivablast project manager Ravin- dar Harimoorthy . The 10-ton CXT crane is used to move pip- ing and infrastructure components within the plant and during loading out operations . "It is easy to operate and safe," he says, with pendant control and optimum dimensions for effective load handling providing the efficiency required by Vivablast, which manages pro- grams, extending from construction phase to maintenance programs, shutdowns and out- ages, during which it designs and executes the optimum technical solutions to maximise industrial assets life . The user-friendly design of the CXT means Vivablast can perform some routine mainte- nance tasks on-site to optimise uptime, while Konecranes is on hand locally to back up with bigger jobs when and if required. The CXT has performed well during the year in which it has been in service and can be relocated in the future for further service . Nghi Son refinery is expected to cost US$9 billion and is scheduled for completion in 2017 . It will have a designed capacity of 10 million tonnes of crude oil per year with the possibility to increase capacity to 20 million tonnes. The refinery project will also include petrochemical complex, energy facilities, pipeline and storage systems . In addition to LPG, unleaded gasoline, kero- sene, jet fuel, diesel and fuel oils, the refinery is projected to produce bitumen, propylene and BTX for the petrochemical industry . The refinery is being designed and built by a syndicate of EPC contractors including JGC Corporation and Chiyoda Corporation from Japan, GS Engineering & Construction Cor- poration and SK Engineering & Construction Co from South Korea, Technip from France and Malaysia's Technip Geoproduction . Cat roof supports for Narrabri mine 50 Cat longwall roof supports will be used to extend the longwall at White- haven Coal's Narrabri North mine . Konecranes delivers for Vietnam project Konecranes delivers for Vietnam project Vivablast's facility at Thanh Hoa in Vietnam where Konecranes' CXT technology processes oil and gas infrastructure .
