What changed, however, is our understanding of the health risks associated with the exposure to dust from mining and quarrying operaঞons. Not only for the workers, but also the neighbouring communiঞes. In recent years, there has been a rapid adopঞon of proacঞve environmental management at mines and related industries. A customisable mechanical foaming dispensing system has been designed by parঞcle specialists, Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST), for the applicaঞon of their Hi-Foam technology product which controls dust with minimal moisture in bulk handling processes. When the Hi-Foam soluঞon is applied through the new system, it creates a robust foam that captures and engulfs fine parঞcles in a 'total dust blanket' effect that prevents dust from becoming airborne. Three decades of industry experience exposed RST engineers to a broad range of site issues. RST operaঞons and technical director David Handel said RST technicians worked closely with clients to design and install the mechanical foaming systems on a case by case basis, assessing the site's individual needs for maximum results from each foaming system. "Each site installaঞon of our foaming system is unique – we work with the site to understand their dust suppressant needs and design the applicaঞon equipment for our product accordingly," he said. "Our Hi-Foam foaming system is popular with conveying and crushing operaঞons where moisture limitaঞons on materials is criঞcal, as the system effecঞvely produces a dust supressing foam that treats large areas with minimal water and dosage requirements," he said. "When applied, the foam wets dust parঞcles to increase their weight, causing them to conঞnue their journey through the conveying and crushing system without ever becoming airborne. "The way in which a product is applied to a site can significantly impact performance, that's why being able to design and customise both the product and the applicaঞon equipment allows us to ensure our clients experience the maximum benefits from our service." The Hi-Foam foaming system uঞlises a dosing feeder that injects the addiঞve directly into the system's water line, allowing for the manual concentraঞon adjustment of the soluঞon. The air and water then mix in an expansion chamber capable of supplying a dust supressing foam to six dosing points introduced at specific stages in the crushing and conveying circuit. RST is commied to minimising the carbon footprint of its clients by developing and implemenঞng technology that lowers the dosage requirements across the enঞre range of RST soluঞons while also providing fast and effecঞve results. OEM Techmine Soluঞons has developed an innovaঞve soluঞon to a common mining problem – efficiently and safely li[ing thousands of metres of conveyor belts for maintenance. The new lightweight hydraulic belt li[er uঞlises an Enerpac XC-Series Cordless Portable Hydraulic Pump to safely and reliably provide the hydraulic pressure (700 bar, 10,000 PSI) required to li[ belt secঞons up to 2,000kgs. "The new belt li[er effortlessly raises the belt in 20 to 25 seconds without requiring complex input from the user. An 1800mm belt li[er, comprised of three main parts, weighs only 29.5 kilograms once assembled. The main 13.7 kilogram li[ing beam is ergonomic and easily portable," said Mr Justen Wright, Principal Engineer, Techmine, and inventor of the new technology. "We discovered that when it came to conveyor li[ing, equipment that wasn't specifically designed for that purpose was being used simply because it was the only thing available – but there could be inherent safety and performance risks," said Mr Wright. "Mine sites should not be li[ing anything without knowing the weight first, because if the weight is above the li[ing device's capacity, this can cause all sorts of problems. Our new belt li[er clearly displays the belt's weight as the li[ progresses, meaning it cannot be overloaded. Enerpac WA Territory Manager David Capper is delighted to see the belt li[er innovaঞon come to fruiঞon and says that the Techmine team have all been working hard for many years to reach this point. Techmine has already had successes in trials with major mining companies, with others specifically seeking them out for a soluঞon to this established problem. Features of the XC-Series cordless pumps include: • Bladder reservoir capacity of 2 litres • Lightweight (only 11kg) and comes with a shoulder strap • Single and double acঞng models, which both come with 2 baeries and chargers • One-half horsepower motor • 28-volt, Lithium-Ion baery technology • Delviers oil flow of 2.05 litres per minute at low pressure seমng and .25 litres per minute when operaঞng at full pressure, up to 700bar
