The Geotech Monitoring Staঞon (GMS) replaces tradiঞonal total staঞons that rely on mirrored prisms to be aached to the slope. The system can scan these points but can also reflect its signal directly off the rock without the need for prisms; reducing the need for a dangerous industry pracঞce. "Prisms can be dangerous to install, inflexible to changing ground condiঞons and their repair or replacement can be unsafe, ঞme-consuming and expensive," said Lachlan Campbell, GroundProbe's Vice President of Markeঞng and Technology. The GMS is able to achieve excellent 'virtual point' precision by applying GroundProbe's patented radar signal and data processing techniques to the long-range laser. "With capabiliঞes well beyond that of typical roboঞc total staঞons, the GMS is a complete-end-to-end intelligent monitoring soluঞon with smart data capture, processing and analysis," said John Beevers, GroundProbe's Chief Execuঞve Officer. "The GMS, and the prisms and points it monitors, complements our Slope Stability Radar suite to provide a complete monitoring strategy for our customers, allowing them to beer manage risk, increase producঞvity, and ensure maximum safety." As an Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) LiDAR, the GMS monitors through automaঞcally measuring hundreds or up to a thousand discrete points on a wall, in the form of physical and virtual prisms. "Like all of our products, it's not just a piece of hardware, but a comprehensive, complete monitoring system," said Product Manager, Fernanda Carrera. "The GMS monitors vast mine areas for long periods of ঞme of many months to many years. "It specialises in background monitoring in open cut pits and highly vegetated slopes, as well as detecঞng and measuring small-scale movement, on tailings dams, dumps and cuমngs, that precede a collapse," she said. The GMS joins GroundProbe's innovaঞve and ever-growing suite of products as a long-term, background monitoring tool. The dual camera imaging capabiliঞes of the GMS, wide-angle and telescopic, permits users to precisely see and control the locaঞons of points in real- ঞme whilst providing the ability to conduct remote visual inspecঞon. The GMS deployed with real me monitoring and viewing of data occurring at the system GroundProbe launches innovative laser technology for open cut mines ABB has supplied a containerised microgrid soluঞon to support a gas-fired power staঞon to opঞmise and automate its operaঞons, increase energy efficiency, reduce fossil fuel consumpঞon and enable uninterrupted power supply from Alinta Energy's Newman Power Staঞon, which supplies mining operaঞons in the Pilbara. ABB's microgrid soluঞon includes a 30-megawa (MW) baery energy storage system, which is one of the largest of its kind to be deployed in a gas-fired power plant and can provide 6,000 homes with power supply, where the average supply is 5 kW. ABB's microgrid soluঞon will provide power supply to cover the ঞme it takes to start-up a new gas turbine, when there is a fault in the running turbine causing power to trip. This back-up will enable uninterrupted supply of reliable power and prevent any disrupঞon. ABB's modular and containerised microgrid will integrate five 6 MW ABB Ability PowerStore™ Baery energy storage systems with the power staঞon's exisঞng gas turbines, providing a 'spinning reserve'. ABB has supplied a range of transformers and switchgear to integrate the system. The innovaঞve soluঞon incorporates ABB's Microgrid Plus automaঞon and control technology that serves as the brain of the enঞre system to monitor the gas turbines and facilitate uঞlity-grade power quality and grid stability. It is also equipped for remote service and maintenance. "The plug-and-play microgrid soluঞon, has been designed to meet complex automaঞon requirements and will ensure grid stability and fuel saving for Alinta's operaঞon," said Massimo Danieli, Head of ABB's Grid Automaঞon business unit, a part of the company's Power Grids division. "Microgrids and energy storage are key focus areas in our Next Level strategy, supporঞng our quest to provide grid stability, fuel savings, and bring reliable power to people, while reducing environmental impact, as exemplified by this project." ABB has microgrid installaঞons all over the world ranging across a diverse array of applicaঞons serving remote communiঞes, islands, uঞliঞes and industrial campuses. Fi[een of these microgrid soluঞons are installed in Australia.
